The Ideal Secretary

The Ideal Secretary has come to mean something very special to the businessman. He wants her to be a skillful stenographer, but he is looking for personal qualities as well. Is she tactfully aggressive ? is he really interested in her work ? Is she genuinely fond of people ? Is she skillful in human relations ? Is she dependable ? Is she truly an assistant ?.

Maturity and experience have a great deal to do with a secretary's personal effectiveness. However, she becomes her boss's right arm because of her determination to develop her personal qualities and skills to the high standards demanded of an assistant to an executives.

The Ideal secretary ( Personal Effectiveness )

Not long ago a group of executives were discussing the ideal secretary. One of them said. " I belive there are certain attributes a secretary must have to be most effectives. We could probably make a pretty thorough list of some of the important qualities- aside from skills - which make up an outstanding secretary. " Here is their list :

1. She makes her boss look good.
2. She is tuctful
3. She has a " sense of anticipation "
4. She is loyal
5. She has " follow - through "
6. She knows how to plan her work
7. She is dependable
8. She reflects company puposes and policies
9. She can keep a secret
10. She always looks her best
11. She knows how to talk well
12. She is cost-conscious
13. She has a variety of interest
14. She is a genuine person
15. She has a mind of her own
16. She has a sense of values

There you have it. These typical executives have stated what they consider the most important qualities of good secretary. There are others, of course, but these are the big ones. Think them over, then ask yourself, " How will I measure up ? ".
